I have had wonderful support of Landau Forte Teacher Training, my mentor, University of Derby, and the science team, I am so glad I chose to train as a Biology teacher with Landau. Every step of the way, I have been able to go at a pace I’m comfortable with; the autonomy has really filled me with confidence and melted away my anxieties. This term I chose to lead a parents’ evening, which I would never have imagined doing so soon! From building circuits to displacing halogens to going home smelling strongly of sulphur, it has been a lot of fun learning from the best. I have been pushed a little out of my comfort zone at times which has been worthwhile and found building relationships with my students very rewarding. Even on the days when I am absolutely exhausted, I live for the little moments, like a student staying after class to show me that they can solve a Rubik’s Cube with their eyes closed, students in my form telling me ‘fun facts’, or the smiles on the corridors! While I came into training with a little experience with my science degree, fresh from completing an MA in English as a Foreign Language and a year oversees teaching, I am still gaining so much knowledge from the fantastic Landau Forte and university lecturers.
